This is what training looked like for me this morning. It was actually nice enough outside for me to run along the canal!

This morning, my daughter and I braved the cold 38°F misty weather to compete in our first Pumpkins in the Park 5K!
I finished with a personal best time of 24:55, which put me at:
I’m quite pleased with my performance today, as well as Ani’s — she had a personal best for a 5K as well! 💪
This, despite the weather (or, maybe in some way it was enhanced by the miserable weather!), was great fun! It is incredibly inspiring seeing people of all ages and abilities running and walking together.
Next up for races, the Webster Turkey Trot (4.4 miles) on Thanksgiving Day, and the Reindeer Run 5K in mid December! I think I’m getting hooked on this running thing. 😄
Yesterday, my Dad and I participated in the Beignet Dash fun run at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort.
It was a great turnout. Lots of runners and walkers showed up bright and early to start their day off with a 1.4 mile race starting and ending at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort. In-between, you go along the river through Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort. It’s beautiful.
And afterwards… well, they don’t call it the Beignet Dash for nothing! Everybody who competes gets three Mickey-shaped beignets.
I ended up with third place — if it wasn’t for two speedy young kids I would have won (I’m sensing a trend here). And my Dad had a personal best for a mile! 🎉
This past Saturday, I completed my longest training run ever — 10k!
This morning while I was in the middle of a benchmark run, Don’t Let This Feeling Fade, by Lindsey Stirling (which I posted about last week) came on.
I’m pushing myself to run as fast as I can. Lecrae delivers this line in the song…
And what if finish lines make us happy?
And right away, the Nike+ Run Club trainer cuts in…
There is no finish line!
I wish I could have recorded this! The timing was absolutely perfect. 😄
This song has been on repeat frequently since I saw Lindsey Stirling in concert the other week and has quickly become one of my training playlist favorites.
Tonight, my daughter and I completed our first official 5K in nearby Honeoye Falls! My wife and parents came out to cheer us on — it has been great having their support and encouragement. Thankfully, the rain ended up holding off, and we even enjoyed a root beer float afterwards with our favorite root beer, which is made right there in Honeoye Falls.
A month ago, we ran our first 5K, a runDisney Virtual Running Short 5K (you run whenever/wherever you want and submit your time).
It’s hard to believe that just three months ago we started training. I’m so proud that my daughter has stuck with this, even after training sessions when it has been difficult. It was fantastic to be able to share my first 5K experiences with her! Our next planned event is a few months away, right before Halloween (we have to start thinking of costumes to wear for that one!).
My daughter and I recently started training to run a 5k later this summer (we’re using 5K Runner by Fitness22). We are planning on doing a runDisney Virtual Running Short 5K in July and a local 5K in August!
